I’m imagining the scene from Toy Story, where Woody first meets Buzz and life-consuming jealousy takes over. That’s probably how my Hydroflask felt when I set my new 40oz Stanely Quencher on the counter. I have loved my limited edition, Hawaiian Shaved Ice Hydroflask for four years. It has been my emotional support water bottle. It has seen me through many ups and downs, keeping me hydrated at all times. 💦 But I couldn’t resist trying the – I’m going to go as far as to call it – phenomenon Stanley has become.
So this week I sent my Hydroflask off on a vacation (the dusty basket under my sink) while I used the Stanley to get a feel for it. Below are my pros and cons:
Pro: The biggest pro of the Stanely 40oz Quencher is that it is large, can fit in a cupholder and has a handle. It doesn’t seem that revolutionary until you attempt to find a decent dupe. This is a lot more convenient than my Hydroflask rolling around on the floor of my car.
Con: It’s bulky to carry around. The handle is nice when sitting at my desk or driving around, but carrying it from room to room is a little cumbersome. I prefer the ease of carrying my Hydroflask, equipped with an off-brand strap from Amazon. I like to always be an arm’s reach away from being hydrated.
Neutral: Both the Stanely and Hydroflask are great at keeping things cold. It’s not rocket science and a lot of other (less expensive) cups have managed to do the same. But still, we gotta hand it to them. They keep ice icy! They also both come in a bunch of fun colors, which if you’re me, is a big draw.
Pro: At 40oz, the Stanley fits more than my 32oz Hydroflask, which is great since I dread refilling. I’ll take an extra 8 oz! Oh, and apparently it’s dishwasher-safe. (I haven’t had a dishwasher in 79 years…) But even so, I find the Stanley a lot easier to handwash than the Hydroflask. No special bottle brush needed!
Con: You can’t find the damn thing. I’m not gonna lie, I was ready to drop $45 on one of these from the very beginning. But the way these sell out, you’d think they were a Kylie Lip Kit in 2015! If you’re not one of the lucky few to get on the company’s waitlist, you’re stuck browsing eBay where the markup is anywhere between $70 to $200(!!), depending on the color. I managed to stumble on a shelf of these during a mid-day jaunt to Target.
Have you jumped on the Stanley trend? What is your water vessel of choice? How many is too many tumblers? (Please, don’t tell me.)

With a name like lime squiggles (pg. 204), how could I resist?! Unfortunately, my “squiggles” didn’t turn out that cute. I liked these, but if I were to make them again I would make sure my butter was softer and use an actual piping bag to shape them. (Not a ziplock, the poor man’s piping bag. 😞)
Thanks for reading, sweeties! 🍎
Loved reading the Stanley Cup review. My personal go-to beverage container is the 32 oz. Buccee's knock-off on a Yeti cup. I have 3 and rotate through them through the week.
