The good news is I made four batches of cookies this week. The bad news? I have four batches of cookies right now. ‘Tis the season, I guess! Luckily, these cookies had a purpose and found their forever homes in the loving arms of my co-workers. For each batch, I baked half of the dough so I could A. photograph it for this newsletter and B. eat some (duh). The rest got pre-portioned into cute little dough balls and put into a gift box. Giving the gift of an on-the-go cookie? Priceless.
Don’t worry, Mom. I have a stash waiting for you when you get here. 😘🍪
December Cookbook: 100 Cookies: The Baking Book for Every Kitchen by Sarah Kieffer
These toasted sesame cookies (pg. 238) were one of my favorite bakes last year, so I jumped at the opportunity to make them again. The toasted sesame oil gives a nuttiness to these cookies that can’t be beat! And the mini chocolate chips add just the right amount of sweetness. Not sure what else to say other than I love these!!
Wow, these cardamom chocolate sugar cookies (pg. 42) might be in my top picks this month. These are a great base cookie with endless opportunities to get creative. I was thinking about skipping the cardamom next time and mixing in some Andes chocolate mints. Thoughts? For these, I rolled the dough balls in some Mexican hot chocolate sugar to add a little more umph!
Next up in the cookie box were the raspberry rye cookies (pg. 121). I loved the tart raspberry in these, but I recommend smashing them a little when adding it to the dough balls. I realized this halfway through, so some cookies have a gorgeous smear of bright red while others looked like a whole raspberry sitting up straight wrapped in a cookie blanket. (Actually, that sounds kind of cute.)
These matcha neapolitan cookies from Constellation Inspiration were another favorite last year, so I was curious how Sarah’s neapolitan cookies (pg. 200) would compare. They turned out about the same! I rolled these in pink sugar just for fun. These have so much potential for other flavor combinations as well. (I’m thinking blueberry-earl grey or dragonfruit-lemon next!)
Thanks for reading, sweeties! 🍎
They all look spectacular! I do kind of want to see a pic of the whole raspberry in the "cookie blanket."
