This week has been crazy busy so I don’t have a cute intro for you. But hey, I made a thread for everyone to say what their favorite cookie is! Click the button. I’m curious.
December Cookbook: 100 Cookies: The Baking Book for Every Kitchen by Sarah Kieffer
Can you have a month dedicated to cookies without mentioning the Girls Scouts? I made homemade thin mints (pg. 211) this week and I actually liked these better than the real thing (gasp!) – but I’m more of a caramel delights kind of girl in the first place. (I can also inhale a sleeve of peanut butter patties in record time.) When I ran out of chocolate to dip these in, I had a few cookies left so I made a small batch of filling for some chocolate sandwich cookies (pg. 211). Homemade Thin Mints and Oreos! What a time to be alive.
When a recipe calls for “liquid smoke”……it’s like…...cookies aren’t about that. But when I saw a bottle at Target for only $1.49 I figured I would give these smoky butterscotch cookies (pg. 156) a chance. This was my first time working with liquid smoke so I started with only a 1/4 teaspoon. I started to worry because the batter already smelled like a campfire! But once the cookies were baked the smell was more subtle. I topped each with granulated sugar and a sprinkle of flakey smoked sea salt. These were small and crisp, making them extra addicting.
These are not in the 100 Cookies book, but I have to make Chris Morocco’s snickerdoodle party cookies every year. They are simply divine! These don’t look like your average snickerdoodle. With the toffee bits, cornflakes and rainbow sprinkles, these scream LET’S PARTY! I usually opt for edible gold glitter, but I had a hard time finding it this year. Rainbow sprinkles were a great alternative.
Thanks for reading, sweeties! 🍎
